A Great Response From the Southern Governors, But...

Today's meeting by the Southern Governors Forum is commendable. It addressed all the concerns we raised but they were at pains to not offend Aso Rock. So, their resolutions ended up being largely sugar-coated, hiding much of the rawness of our demands.

This can be understood. However, it remains ever true that a thorough commitment to addressing the yearnings of the people remains far more sacrosanct than any commitment to not offend the president and his kins.

Whatever be the case, what matters above all else is a commitment to implementing those resolutions. As a result, we are on the watch-out to see if any cattle rearer or the Federal Government would defy the governors as it has been happening.

We cannot allow ourselves to be fooled any more. Thus, one question we are asking the Southern governors is, "in case the herders and/or the Federal Government defy them and the people, what are we going to do?" This is because something has to be done and it has to be truly timely and impactful.

Then, to the President, we insist that he responds to the Southern Governors Forum in 24 hours or less, or it may be taken as defiance already. In his response, we ask him to mention the exact date of his address to the country. Also, we remind him that he needs to APOLOGIZE to Nigerians for allowing his kins kill, terrorize, and deprive them all these years. Although that would be far from being enough to repay the losses and damages he has caused with his kins, we can begin to establish our premise from there.

We are waiting for the President. Then, we urge Nigerians to help in reporting any presence of cattle grazers especially in any part of Southern Nigeria. This is the only way we can be sure if they are acting in accordance or discordance with the demands of the Southern Governors Forum. We hope that their Northern counterparts would act with some responsibility too, and very soon as well.

Meanwhile, here is the communique issued by the governors of Southern Nigeria in their meeting today.
